PCG Commodore Angel Viliran |
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conferred CG Commodore Angel Viliran with the Award of Coast Guard Distinguished Conduct Star and Ribbon during his Retirement Ceremony on 04 March 2024.
The award is given to a PCG personnel who exhibits sustained acts of heroism whether in the conduct of Coast Guard operations or in the face of great personal danger or of such a magnitude that it stands out distinctly above normal expectations.
During his tenure as Commanding Officer of Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) 3004, CG Commo Viliran bravely challenged the interference of the Taiwan Coast Guard (TCG) while they were in various courses of driving away and apprehending Taiwan Fishing Boats (TFB) last 2015.
With no hesitation, he displayed a profound sense of responsibility and dedication to duty as he sailed through adverse sea conditions at night with only one Auxiliary Engine, a defective radar system, frequent disengaging of the steering wheel control, continuous malfunctioning of the gyro-compass, and no available communication lines.
Beyond the threat and constant risk of life, CG Commo Viliran is recognized as the first PCG recipient of the said award for successfully and gallantly asserting the rightful territorial integrity of the country.
